Debra Carlson

Debbie Carlson grew up in rural Minnesota where her love of sewing started. At age 7, she was quilting and embroidering and by age 9, constructing clothing. She was a member of the local 4-H group, where she entered projects into the county fair and developed her skills. It was a natural path for her to be able to attend a yearlong commercial tailoring course taught by a German Master Tailor. The class instruction included basic and major alterations, pattern making, sloper fitting, designing and constructing men’s and ladies jackets and trousers. The training was good preparation for employment in the clothing industry, where she worked as an alterations tailor, taught tailoring classes and became certified to teach at the vocational level. Today, Carlson stays busy with wedding dress sewing and alterations and receives requests for drapery and simple upholstery work.
