MCC Faculty Development is pleased to welcome Dr. Kira Mauseth back to MCC for the third time. As a follow up to her popular keynotes delivered in the fall and spring in 2023, Dr. Mauseth returns in November to continue the discussion around faculty and staff well-being.
This presentation showcases the underlying factors and biggest contributors to stress in an educational environment, and what can be done to effectively and reasonably reduce symptoms of each. We will discuss active strategies related to the neuroscience of communication, and engaging effectively (and reducing risk) when supporting people in crisis or those who are angry. We will address the strategies, dynamics and tactics related to being part of a healthy team. Group dynamics are complicated- even more so these days with a highly polarized social and political world. How can team members work well together when it comes to effective communication, productivity, and effectiveness in the workplace, without doing ‘more’?
As educators who are used to giving much in support of others, the shift in seasons often heralds a time when we just move from one set of demands to another.
This presentation offers a brief insight into a new set of choices, reframing time and energy as our most valuable professional resources, rather than adding more to our to-do list. We will explore strategies such as connecting with nature and practicing self-compassion, as well as experiences of awe and gratitude as we look into our year.
