Aikido is a Japanese form of self-defense, with its roots in Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu and Japanese swordsmanship. All students begin by learning to fall safely, a skill that no doubt comes in handy during Nebraska’s winter season. As students progress, they learn to blend with the incoming energy from an attack and turn that energy into joint locks and then progress into a combination of joint locks and throwing techniques to dispatch an attacker.
