The Horse Course 102

OR

Prerequisite: The Horse Course 101, placement into The Horse Course 102, or approval. Students unable to attend Horse Course 101 or with previous knowledge of horses will have the chance to test into Horse Course 102.
Build upon the topics you learned in The Horse Course 101 and dive into greater detail regarding special topics in horse health and care. A continuation of the discussion about a variety of careers will occur, as guest speakers will be invited to present and answer questions on topics within their area.

Elkhorn Valley Campus 407

Shana Winkel

Shana Winkel's background in horses runs pretty deep, as she has been riding since she was five years old and has traveled throughout the country competing in hunter/jumper competitions. She has trained horses, gentled/broke horses and has ridden many different breeds. At 13, she competed in the children's FEI international jumping competition in which her team took silver. At 14, Winkel competed in her first grand prix. She has won numerous international competitions and has earned state champion in her division. After high school, she was recruited to compete for Kansas State on their Division 1 Equestrian team in which she traveled to Nationals all four years. Continuing after college she moved to Ocala, Florida where she worked for the third largest equine vet practice and where she became a trained veterinary technician. Following Florida, Winkel moved to Omaha for school and received professional riding status in the equestrian industry. Winkel has her MS and PhD in Animal Science with a focus on Nutrition.
