This course is an opportunity to learn along with students currently enrolled at the Institute for the Culinary Arts about how historical events, migration patterns, and local industries have influenced what's on the menu and where food is served. As Omaha has grown and evolved, so too have the communities that give it flavor-both literally and figuratively. From the early immigrant enclaves of South Omaha to the cultural heartbeat of North Omaha and the revitalization of the Old Market and Benson, restaurants have long served as more than places to eat-they are gathering spaces, cultural landmarks, and symbols of identity. Through photos, stories, and guest speakers, participants will discover how the past continues to shape today's dining experiences.
Notes:
Please arrive to the Institute for the Culinary Arts (Building 22 on MCC's Fort Omaha Campus) 15 minutes before the class begins, and the Chef Instructor will escort you to your classroom.
