To capitalize on the skills, experience, and unique perspectives each employee brings to our organization, we must ensure that the workplace provides each an opportunity to develop their potential and contribute to the success of the organization.


An important step in creating a workplace that values belongingness is training for supervisors and managers, as well as training for all employees. As supervisors we have a responsibility to ensure all feel welcomed and that employee contributions are valued in the workplace.

 

The primary goal of this session is to facilitate understanding of the importance of belongingness in the workplace and how supervisors support benefits everyone. By the end of the session, you should be able to identify understand the benefits and opportunities of a having a workforce that fosters belongingness.

    Dr. Cynthia Gooch-Grayson

    As associate vice president for equity and inclusion, Dr. Cynthia Gooch-Grayson oversees affirmative action, equity and diversity and intercultural education.

    Cynthia earned her Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Higher Education Administration and Leadership. She received her master's degree in Family and Mental Health Counseling at the University of the District of Columbia and a bachelor's in Communication Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her scholarly interests include equity, retention and access in postsecondary education with groups that have been historically discriminated against, disenfranchised and marginalized.
