REMS was developed by FIRESCOPE as a method of rescuing Firefighters who are injured during wildland operations.

Line of duty deaths during these incidents occur more often to career and volunteer firefighters.

A REMS team is a pre-staged resource much like a RIC crew is at a structure fire. The REMS team will deploy to the injured firefighter, package, and extract to a pre-designated point for definitive care.

Many injuries in the wildland / wildland urban interface involve slips, trips, and falls, but also rollover accidents of fire department vehicles, injuries from fallen trees, downed power lines, and medical incidents occur.

Due to the likelihood of these occurring in rural areas with uneven terrain and where traditional methods of rescue may not be feasible, MCC Fire Science offers first responders specialized training for these events.

REMS is a three-day course involving rope rescue in both the low angle / high angle environment, extrication of overturned vehicles, patient packaging techniques, and rescue plan implementation in which crews will navigate terrain with gear and equipment over a given distances.

Course pre-requisites: Firefighter I, Rope Operations Level

Student PPE:  Helmet and Harness Provided.  Students will need turnout or wildland gear, rope rescue gloves, clothing appropriate for the weather, above the ankle shoes preferably waterproof, eye pro or sunglasses, water bottle, and a backpack capable of carrying 30-40lbs.
