From "Child's Play" to "Get Out" horror movies, monsters, and scary stories can tell us a lot about ourselves and our society. What are we afraid of? Why are we afraid of it? Should we be afraid? What does this say about our culture? And of course, why are dolls so creepy? In this class we will do in-depth readings of popular horror movies for things like race and gender politics, sexuality, how they reflect their time, and the meanings of their iconic monsters.
