Americans are deeply concerned about our political divisions today. In this public lecture, historian Don Hickey will examine the seven periods in American history when the nation has been deeply divided, will suggest what elements they have in common, and will show how Americans in the first six crises resolved their differences and achieved a consensus. He will then look at our current crisis and suggest a path that might enable us to minimize conflict while navigating our way toward a solution.
