As we encounter more K-12 students on campus through various programs, it’s important that we understand our legal obligations to report suspected child abuse to the appropriate authorities. In Nebraska, everyone is a mandatory reporter, meaning any person who suspects child abuse or neglect is legally required to report it to the appropriate authorities. We recognize that many of our faculty and staff haven’t had to report before, so we’ve partnered with Project Harmony to provide training.

Course description

This course prepares mandatory reporters with the knowledge and skills to recognize and report child abuse and neglect along with an overview of the different types of abuse and their prevalence in Nebraska.  In this training, participants will discuss challenges associated with reporting abuse and neglect, practice asking minimal facts questions, and receive resources that will help with knowing how and when to report. Additionally, Project Harmony staff will provide some guidance to address some of the unique challenges present in the higher education environment.
