Want to treat yourself and someone special to a day traveling northeast to explore interesting places? Join us for spring scenery along country lanes that bring us to Clarkson, Royal, and Neligh, NE. Our tour begins at Clarkson, a town that celebrates its Czech heritage each year. Enjoy a stop for a kolache/coffee break at the Clarkson Bakery. Then receive a guided tour of the Czech Museum, a 2-story building with over 5,000 Czech heritage artifacts. In addition, take a trip to the past by seeing the farm and ranch room which contains saddles, ropes, harnesses, and various implements used by the pioneers in Clarkson. While in town visit the famous Bluebird Nursery. The nursery's wholesale division ships millions of perennials, herbs, grasses and wild flowers to garden centers, landscapers, mail order firms, botanic gardens, parks, and zoos throughout the U.S. and Canada. They offer over 2,000 different plants which are propagated from seed, cuttings, layers, division and tissue culture in Bluebird's 8 acres of greenhouses. There will be a quick stop for lunch on your own.

Have you ever been on a fossil dig? Receive a warm welcome at Ashfall Fossil Beds in Royal, NE. Our guide will lead us around the grounds to important volcanic dinosaur fossil beds which are ongoing excavation sites. The area is distinctive enough that the Public Broadcasting Service's series Nova featured the site and a photo article appeared in National Geographic Magazine. This tourist stop attracts 25,000 visitors a year. According to bone hunter Dr. Voorhies, "Ashfall is the only place in the world that has skeletons of large prehistoric animals in the round. Their rib cages are still bulging up just like a live animal and that's really what makes this place unique." The park's enclosed Rhino Barn with the intact skeletons is the star attraction. It's was recently expanded and is currently eight times larger than its original size. Bring your camera for some great photos!

Next, enjoy a guided tour of the Neligh Mill State Historic Site in Neligh, NE. Sift through the story of milling in Nebraska and tour a mill with its original 1880s equipment still intact. Explore the mill, restored mill office, reconstructed flume and penstock and the remains of the mill dam. The Museum displays explain the history of the mill and provide information about other water-powered mills once located throughout the Midwest. Make a final stop in West Point, NE for a complete buffet dinner!

The cost paid to MCC is for bus transportation, the evening buffet dinner, the Czech Museum, Neligh Mill's guided tour, and the guided tour of the Ashfall Fossil Beds and Rhino Barn.
