Our unique tour begins at the enchanting Hotel Pattee in Perry, IA. This grand hotel built in 1913 individually decorated every room to celebrate the history, tradition, and people who make up the region. Our tour guide will show us around this impressive landmark and tour a few individually themed rooms as availability allows. Also, visit the Carnegie Library Museum adjacent to Hotel Pattee. The library was built in 1904 with a grant from Andrew Carnegie and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

After lunch on your own at a fast food restaurant, hop aboard a Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad classic coach in Boone, IA for a 1 hr-45 min. adventure. Experience the drama of our steam locomotive train running through the beautiful Des Moines River valley. Ride the rail over two great bridges; one is 160 ft. in height. The views are wonderful! Drinks are allowed on board. Also, there's a beverage station car where you can purchase items on the go. There will be time to browse the Iowa Railway Gift Shop which displays the largest selection of railroad gift items in the state and also tour the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum.

Then, have fun touring Swede Point Creamery. This dairy produces goat cheese. Visitors enjoy watching the playful antics of their milking ladies and kids as they frolic and play at the farm. Since immigrating from Sweden in the 1800's, the Olson family has raised livestock and farmed land near Madrid which was originally named Swede Point. Owner Paula Olson runs Swede Point Creamery featuring goats, goat cheeses and several varieties of chèvre. Why goat cheese? Compared to cheeses made from cow milk goat cheese has fewer calories, more vitamins and minerals, its lower in sodium, and easier to digest. Try some! Paula will serve coffee and a special snack during the tour. There's more! We'll make a stop at Jordan Creek Mall for a quick snack and some last minute shopping before returning home. Or kick back and relax with a fruit smoothie at the mall's Lake District including a lake spread over 3.5 acres. The lake is surrounded by pedestrian walkways with comfortable outdoor seating and pleasant stereo music piped in from numerous mini outdoor speakers. Taking a stroll around the lake is another pleasant activity option after your meal.
