Investing for Beginners

Does you financial health stress you out? If so, you are not the only one. According to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) "Nearly half of families have no retirement account savings at all." In this class students will learn about strategies to get and stay financially fit no matter where you fall on spectrum. The course will start with the underlying concepts behind investment including time value of money, real vs. nominal rates, yield concepts and the role of saving and budgeting. Then we'll move onto the common investment options seen in today’s environment including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, annuities, CD’s and real estate and the attributes of each investment option. The next portion of the course will focus on valuation methods of different investment options. The course will finish on common investment strategies including tax advantage investing, diversification, leverage, correct risk-aversion weighting
