Aikido is a Japanese form of self-defense, with its roots in Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu and Japanese swordsmanship. All students begin by learning to fall safely (a skill that no doubt comes in handy during winter in Nebraska). From basic safety, students then learn to progress from deflecting an attacker's energy to adding joint locks and throwing techniques.
