You will learn how to recognize and write letters in their different positions within a word, while also practicing the pronunciation of sounds unique to Arabic. The course will highlight similarities between Arabic and English sounds and explore Arabic loanwords that exist in English, such as sugar, alcohol, and lemon. In addition to the writing system, students will gain an overview of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and how it differs from the many local dialects spoken across the Arab world. You will also be introduced to bare verb roots in MSA, common vocabulary from various dialects, and cultural topics including greetings, food, clothing, health, and traditions.Class sessions include interactive activities and role-play exercises to help students practice speaking in a supportive group setting. By the end of the course, you will have the skills to read and write the Arabic alphabet, pronounce basic words, and engage with Arabic language and culture at a beginner's level."
