Take a musical journey through the roots, legends, and evolution of rock & roll in this exciting summer class designed for teens. Students will explore the major artists, songs, and cultural movements that shaped rock music, from its beginnings in rhythm and blues through classic rock, punk, grunge, and beyond. Alongside listening and discussion, students will get hands-on experience with jam sessions, learning iconic riffs, chord progressions, and rhythms on their own instruments. Activities will include guided listening, collaborative projects, group playing, and opportunities to connect the history of rock to today’s music. By the end of the course, students will gain a deeper appreciation of rock’s legacy, develop ensemble performance skills, and share their learning in an informal showcase that blends history with live music-making.
