Celebrate the voices, creativity, and influence of women who shaped the world of popular music. This inspiring summer class for teens explores the groundbreaking contributions of female artists across decades—from early trailblazers like Aretha Franklin and Carole King to modern icons such as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter. Students will study how women in pop have used their art to express identity, challenge norms, and define cultural moments. Through guided listening, discussion, lyric analysis, jam sessions, and collaboration for a final recital/presentation project. Participants will connect the history of women in pop to the music of today. By the end of the course, students will understand how female artists have shaped both the sound and spirit of modern music. Bring your instrument!
