The ukulele is a member of the lute family of instruments that is rich with history and tradition. It first appeared in Hawaii in the 1800s and gained great popularity elsewhere in the United States during the early 20th century. It generally employs four nylon strings or four courses of strings that are usually played with the base thumb and/or finder. The ukulele is easier to learn to play than a guitar. Build a ukulele using the tools and equipment in the Prototype Design Lab. Safe practices of using equipment and tools are emphasized. Materials are included in tuition.
