*Spirit of Brownville River Cruise
*Spirit of Brownville River Cruise, Dinner and Murder Mystery!
Requirement: moderate to extensive walking
Join us for a day of adventure exploring the town of Brownville, "Nebraska's Oldest Little River Town," the J. Sterling Morton Mansion, and Indian Cave State Park. Once served by the steamboats that maneuvered the currents from St. Louis to Montana, the town of Brownville is full of historic buildings, fine art, shops, antiques, a bookstore, and Whiskey Creek Winery. The highlights of the tour will be a Murder Mystery Comedy at the Brownville Village Theatre in the afternoon and the 'Spirit of Brownville' evening river cruise which includes dinner!
In addition, visit the J. Sterling Morton Mansion, in Nebraska City. Morton was the originator of Arbor Day and Secretary of Agriculture under President Grover Cleveland. The 52-room Colonial Revival house began in 1855. The mansion features Victorian and Empire furnishings, many were owned by the Mortons. The sun parlor contains a Tiffany skylight with grape trellis design. The house, a National Historic Landmark, is surrounded by 270 varieties of trees and shrubs. Indian Cave State Park is an area which covers 3,052 acres of natural beauty near Shubert NE. The park takes its name from a large sandstone cavity of uncertain age which is a natural formation with Indian petroglyphs (picture writing) etched on the walls. View the wildflowers and listen to the lovely songbirds as you view the Indian petroglyphs site.
The cost paid to MCC is for bus transportation, the Brownville riverboat dinner cruise, the Brownville Village Theatre's Murder Mystery Comedy, the Indian Cave State Park fee, and the J. Sterling Mansion. Bring money for shopping, snacks, and optional wine tasting at Whiskey Run Creek. Our deluxe motor coach departs promptly at 7:30 a.m. from Sarpy Center; park and meet the bus in the northwest parking lot. Return is approximately 9:00 p.m. No discount. Refunds will not be allowed within seven days of the trip. The trip leader is Kevin Kowskie.
