History of South Omaha

Dive into the history of South Omaha, the “Magic City” of the Midwest. Focusing on the thirty years of independence from Omaha itself, we will examine South Omaha’s influence as the primary cattle market of the Great Plains. This class will examine the melting pot of cultures in South Omaha on the eve of annexation, and the influence of the “Big Four” meatpacking companies on the industrial and labor history of the region.


Students will utilize the Zoom conferencing application to complete this course. Zoom meeting invitations will be sent via email at least one day prior to the class start date. Students must provide a valid email address to receive the meeting invitation to enter the Zoom virtual classroom.
