Join us on a trip to places that have stories about ghostly sightings and paranormal events. A special cemetery walking tour is included. The first stop will be the Glore Psychiatric Museum in St. Joseph, MO. The original ‘State Lunatic Asylum No. 2’ opened in 1874 with 25 patients. It chronicles the 130-year history of the state hospital and centuries of rather bizarre mental health treatments. The museum is recognized as one of the 50 most unusual museums in the country and mentioned in national publications and television programs including The Learning Channel, The Discovery Channel, PBS, and the Science Channel. Next, travel to Atchison, KS, proclaimed to be the most haunted town in Kansas. Enjoy a delicious lunch. Afterwards, a local step-on guide will board our bus for a tour focusing on the paranormal involving buildings and mansions. Learn all about the famous Waggener House (gargoyle home) built in the mid-1884-1885. Legend has it the owner gained his wealth through a deal with the devil, and the gargoyles on the roof were constructed in honor of the pact. One of the highlights of the tour is the Sallie House. It has earned a national reputation as one of the most haunted places in the U.S. – almost certainly the most haunted in the state of Kansas. The home and its haunting have been the subject of movies, television specials, and a documentary. Due to the home’s previous dark history the tour will be limited to the grounds and not the interior of the house. While in Atchison, there will be a surprise stop at a destination linked to ghostly sightings and also a cemetery walking tour. You may be walking on uneven turf and surfaces; please wear appropriate footwear. A fast food stop is planned on the way home. The cost paid to MCC is for bus transportation, group luncheon, step-on guide, Glore Psychiatric Museum fee, surprise stop fee, and cemetery walking tour fee. Bring money for other meals. Our deluxe motor coach departs promptly at 7:30 a.m. from Sarpy Center; park and meet the bus at the northeast parking lot. Return is at approximately 10:00 p.m. No discounts. Refunds will not be allowed within fourteen days of the trip. The trip leader is Kevin Kowskie. Requirement: moderate walking.

Kevin Kowskie
Kevin Kowskie is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He is passionate about travel and art. His artwork has been displayed at the College of St. Mary’s, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, the Durham Museum and has been included in a group show at the Joslyn Art Museum. Kowskie’s love for foreign travel and cultural enrichment goes back as far as he can remember. While traveling with his family to Rocky Mountain National Park as a child, he developed a keen desire to expand his journeys to distant lands, and the rest was history. After traveling through much of the United States as he got older, this ambition drew him to expand his travels on an international scale—discovering destinations in Canada, Mexico and a dozen European nations. In his early thirties, Kevin and a friend devoted two weeks every year to backpacking through Europe and visiting different nations and destinations via train. He loves encountering new cultures and meeting people from diverse backgrounds. After someone suggested to him that Omaha would appreciate seminars on European travel, Kowskie followed his passion to become a noncredit instructor on the subject for MCC. Planning, organizing and leading group tours are part of his favorite pastimes. Kowskie is currently a trip leader and coordinator for MCC’s Traveling Classrooms, sharing his experience and knowledge as part of the motivated Continuing Education staff.
