The bo (6’ staff) is known for its versatility as both a tool and a weapon. The bo has been around for centuries and is considered by some as one of the most effective weapons. Techniques and movements with the bo serve as the foundation for other “pole arm” weapons like the yari (spear) and the naginata (glaive). Participants will learn blocking, striking, and thrusting techniques used by countless warriors of the past as well as kata (form) and basic kumite (sparring). Participants will need a 6' staff. If you have one, in good repair, feel free to use it. Otherwise students should bring $45 to purchase a bo.
