Feel like you’re in 19th century Holland by visiting the tulip festivities in a charming Dutch village in northern Iowa. It’s an entertaining celebration of the best of small town America – a tulip showcase for the multitude of visitors in this community’s rich Dutch heritage. Festivities include fun ethnic food treats, music and dancing by hundreds of children and adults in intricate authentic costumes, a special parade, an arts and crafts show, and thousands of gorgeous tulips in lanes lining avenues, parks, and small gardens throughout Orange City. The Tulip Town Bulb Company Gardens offers a colorful array of over 40 varieties of imported Dutch tulips! There will be an opportunity for you to place your tulip bulbs order for fall delivery.

The morning tour begins at the Vogel windmill – a working replica of the mills in Holland, afterwards visit the lovely Century House and the Tulip Gardens (where bulbs can be ordered). Later experience how blocks of wood are formed into wooden shoes at the De Klompen Maker. To satisfy your hunger for lunch try the market area, food tent, the multitude of vendors, or the village’s cozy restaurants. Those hankering for special Dutch treats can try almond patties, Wilhelmina Peppermints, Stroopwafels layered with caramel, and Dutch fudge puppies which are like long johns dipped in chocolate and topped with whipped cream. Or find the line to a bakery’s supply of puffy corn-sized poffertjes. See a spectacular Volksparade in the afternoon with your reserved seat!  Enjoy viewing provincial costumes, the presentation of the Tulip Queen, her Royal Court, Dutch children’s games & singing, folk dancers, and colorful floats.  Afterwards, you’ll be entertained by a Dutch song & dance performance in a cozy theater.  Be sure to visit the Straatmarket for fun activities and bring comfortable shoes. See the Dutch Street Organ, one of only two in the USA, and more windmills for your enjoyment. There will be a stop for fast food on our return trip.

Cost paid to Metro is for bus transportation, the Volksparade Reserved Seating, the Century House tour, and Dutch Song & Dance Theater Performance. Bring money for food and extras you might enjoy like horse drawn street tours or shuttles. Our deluxe motor coach departs promptly at 7:30 a.m. from Sarpy Center: park and meet the bus at the northeast parking lot. Return approximately at 9:00 p.m. Sorry, no discount. Refunds will not be allowed within seven days of the trip. The trip leader is Kevin Kowskie.
