How did the Iowa born son of Irish immigrants take over Omaha and run the city for all it was worth for decades? From the 1890s until 1932, Tom Dennison was the boss of a political machine that used every trick in the book, from voter fraud to murder, to remain in power. In 1919, a century ago, the Dennison machine orchestrated the infamous Courthouse Riot where Omaha's Mayor Smith was almost hung by a crowd that then lynched Will Brown and burned his body in the street. It was all for political gain by Dennison and it worked. This is set up as an informative lecture.
